Fabricy Naughtiness

I was in Spotlight the other day (well a while ago now), just getting a little bit of felt and some brooch backs, but Christmas fabric was 50c a meter, so...

The scale is a little hard to appreciate in this picture, but the two left hand piles are each 6 meters...I may have gone a little overboard.

In other news, I've decided to discontinue Scatterdays. It has just got a bit hard working two out of three Saturdays.

A lovely suprise package

Ok, the first time I said the internet was working at home it was, it just stopped working after two hours. Now it seems it's been fixed properly. Hooray!

Anyway, I was very spoilt with this package just after Christmas. It was a complete surprise from librarylass and she made me feel very special.

She sent me the fabric at the bottom, some beautiful roving and a whole pile of bits and pieces as well as a pet hair roller (extremely useful) and a book by Gerald Durrell, Birds, Beast and Relatives, which was a fantastic read.

All I need now is more time...

Cotton and Wool and Yarn. Oh my!

That title doesn't completely make sense, but with just cotton and wool you don't end up with the Wizard of Oz reference. Anyway a combination of factors led to me splurging on various yarns.

1. I'd just bought some new crochet books
2. Bendigo Woollen Mills was having a sale (and still is I think)
3. There was a destashing thread on the Australian Knitters Board of Ravelry

So I've ended up with all of this:

The first two cones are from Ravelry, no plans for this just yet and the rest is from Bendigo Woollen Mills. The other cones are going to be made into the Icelandic Sweater and Leaves Sweater, I keep changing my mind as to the colours of each. The next three balls are cotton and are going to turn into the Mesmerize Sweater (I've started this one), then we have two balls for a non-Crochet Me cardigan, but I can't remember the name of it at the moment, and finally we have another three balls of cotton, bought because they were even more on sale...not that I have to justify them!

Fabric

Linda from Chloe's Place was selling some fabric, so I took the opportunity to make a purchase.

I got them incredibly quickly, and Linda did a fantastic job of picking pieces with minimal guidance from me (basically I gave her some colours).

Aren't they lovely? And packed so neatly as well.

Aaargh Matey! We have treasure!

I've always been jealous reading other peoples blogs when they have a really fantastic thrift shop/op shop find. I've found good bits and pieces but nothing that's got me really excited...until now that is.

I took this random tied up plastic bag which looked like it had some zippers and stuff in it to the counter along with some other stuff I'd bought and asked if the whole bag was for sale. After some brief consultation the two women decided it was, and priced it at $5. Look was I got!

I'm so impressed...although it probably means I need to learn how to sew a zip now! It also made my day a lot better, I'd been working on what was supposed to be my day off, and it ended up being so quiet it wasn't really worth me coming in. Never mind, I bought some good craft goodies.

Craft Show Goodies

I went to the Craft and Stitches show on Wednesday and bought myself a couple of things.

I got some pretty fat quarters...and some of them are even for specific projects, some beads (not for anything specific - naughty me!) and some more embroidery scissors, because they always come in handy.

On the topic of buying things, I'm working a lot during September so I was thinking of having a big craft book splurge in October so have a think about any recommendations between now and then and I'll probably have a big of a competition with suggestions!

More Pretty

Here's some more gorgeous roving that Meshell sent me. This one is from Celia's Basket and the colour is Jungle Flowers and it's lovely and soft and ever so pretty.

The cheeses I ordered from Nundle Wool Mills have also arrived so you should see some spinning from me soon...and I may have also won a couple of lots on ebay as well so I better get to work!

I've just counted the Nundle stuff - and it looks like while I ordered a kilo, I've got one and a half. Lucky me!

Look at the pretty colours...

Nothing terribly exciting to tell at the moment, so I thought I'd post some pictures of this candy coloured crochet cotton that I bought recently. No plans at the moment, but it was a bargain and the colours are lovely (have I said that enough). I think it'll be handy to have these around if I do decide to make something with crochet thread. They'lll maybe be used for bookmarks or something...

So I got this bitch pregnant...

...and if you don't know that I'm a vet that comment would sound pretty bad. I was really just using that as a title because I thought it sounded cool, but in case you were wondering about the details, I did an surgical artificial insemination on a dog and we found out she's pregnant with lots of puppies today.

Anyway, on to other random things. My nanna used to get made fun of because once she bought some bird seed because it was on special, even though she didn't have a bird.

I figured at least I'd use some of these earrings for something crafty, even if they didn't get worn, but still it is one of those random 'it was cheap' purchases.

In case you're wondering, it was $2 for all these earrings, 62 pairs (unless I counted wrongly!), so I think I probably got them just before they got thrown out.

Wool Purchases

Here's some more stuff I bought!

First we have ebay purchases. I've got plans for the green, but the blue is in the undecided pile.

This lot is from Bendigo Wool Mills (or whatever they're called) and I was so impressed with how quickly it got here. The colours are nicer in real life, although the cotton is fairly plain, but it was similar to the shade card. I'm planning to make Go For Baroque from the Happy Hooker from the cotton and Frou Frou from the wool.

Beady Goodness

This purchase arrived last Monday and I haven't really had time to get my camera out and take photos, but I did manage to sort out some of them in bits and pieces. I ordered them from Spacetrader and they arrived really quickly.

All these beads were in a 1kg mixed glass bead bag for only $20. I've sorted them into colour because that's the type of person I am.

These are the other beads I bought (I've already used some of the blue crystals) and you may be able to tell I was in a purple mood. Some of this stuff came from a lucky dip bag which had some cool stuff in it. I also bought some findings and charms but I've put them away already!

The chain is the only thing I'm not completely happy with, but I think that was more due to a misunderstanding on my part than anything.

Yay!

I've had a great week for post this week, I think I've got four parcels. I'll post some of the others later, but here is a really special one that I got today, from the lovely Meshell!

Look at all that, there is fabric, buttons, beads, ribbon and a lovely book, In Stitches by Amy Butler.

I'm so spoilt! Thanks Meshell!

Naughty me

Ok, so I shouldn't be buying stuff at the moment, because I've got to drag it all the way back to Melbourne in a couple of weeks. But anyway...one of my friends heard about a reuse centre called 'That's Not Garbage' and so we went to have a look.

They had tons of inspiring stuff but I just got a fairly small bag which set me back about $2.50 and is an amount of stuff that I can justify taking home.

Buttons, buttons, buttons

Ok, so Meshell is officially a bad influence on me. She posted all these lovely pictures of buttons she'd bought on ebay and I was thinking "Buttons, why do I need buttons?...Oh, but they're pretty and, why do I need buttons?"

I now have buttons.

Craft Fair

There was a quilt and craft fair on in Adelaide this weekend so I thought I'd go to it and spend some money. Anyway, after I'd paid for parking and entry and bought three or four things I'd run out of money (I hadn't spent that much, maybe a bit over $40) and when I went to get some more out the ATM wouldn't give me any money. I should have had enough money in my account, so then I started panicking, thinking that someone had hacked into my bank account and I now had no money (it's a logical conclusion isn't it?). But when I got home and checked my balance all my money seemed to be there. Hooray!

So now I've got some lovely crimping pliers, some shiny new embroidery scissors, some bigger jump rings and some mobile phone charm cords (that was an impulse buy, everything else was actually on a list of things to buy if I saw them). I think if I'd been able to get more money out there would have been more impulse buys though.

Oooooh

I'm a bit slack at the moment. I'm trying to space out my posts a bit, but now I'm getting behind, because I bought all this stuff on Saturday, and I've got a few completed projects that I need to take photos of. Anyway, the shopping was lots of fun, although I've realised I need some other stuff now. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to buy some more!

New Supplies Posted by Picasa

Anyway, I got some yarn (I'm planning to use it for amigurumi), some eyes (amigurumi), stuffing (amigurumi), buttons (they were on special), embroidery thread (maybe crocheted earrings), a wash off pen (embroidery), a new hoop (embroidery), a plastic tray (I sorted out some of my beads, now I need more trays for findings and other stuff), and some ribbon (it was on special).

I've got a few ideas ticking round my head at the moment too, which is good because I felt a bit out of inspiration for a bit before I went away.

I saw Superman Returns last night. It was kind of good, but could have been cut down by about an hour. By the time it finished I was definately ready to go to bed. At least I didn't fall asleep in the middle of it! I managed to entertain my friends by getting completely lost in the carpark. I had never been to that shopping center and I got given pretty crap directions by them. Admittedly I'm not that great at directions anyway, but I kept everyone amused so that's the most important thing!

Crochet Supplies

Oooh, look what I got! I ordered it from Crochet Australia and it arrived really quickly, with a bonus Freddo Frog. Yum!

I bought a Hairpin Lace loom, a Tunisian/Afghan Hook and some cro-tat hooks and an instruction/pattern book. I'm really pleased with it all!

New craft goodies

I went shopping on the weekend, lots of fun! Anyway, K-Mart was having a sale on yarn so I bought some alpaca wool, and I'm going to try a felted/fulled project which should be fun. Although I don't really have access to a top loading washing machine other than one which is used for dog blankets, and some of them are pretty gross, so once I make something with it (eventually) I might try hand felting/fulling it. The other wool I'm thinking about making leg warmers with. I just love the warmth of the colours. It's so yummy.

While I was out shopping, there was one of those discounty stores closing down so I got some cheap beads and stuff. No plans for these currently, I'm sure something will inspire me though!

Look what I got!

Look what I got! It was a gift from my friends, a late birthday/moving present. It's got tools, and beads and findings and now I can make some stuff. I'm pretty excited!

I'm heading to Adelaide tomorrow but probably won't be posting here for at least two weeks because I'm staying with a friend and I don't think she has internet access so I'll just be checking my email and that's about it.
